Navy handles give a natural cotton bag a nautical, slightly preppy feel, a bit like a Breton top. It's a good match for seaside shops, boutique hotels, prep schools and professional firms that want something less formal than a dark bag.
A navy print that matches the handles is the classic choice and always looks put together. Navy with a red or light blue accent also works nicely. Most dark and strong inks show well on the cream, but white and pale yellow will disappear.
