Large tote bags

A large tote is about depth as much as width. Our biggest totes have a gusset of 5 to 20 cm and hold 18 to 33 litres, up to three times the 10 litres of a standard 38 x 42 cm flat tote. The largest is the Premium Organic Canvas Zip Tote Bag at 60 x 40 x 14 cm.

Why the gusset matters

A gusset is the extra strip of fabric at the base, and often up the sides, that lets a bag open out into a box shape. It's what turns a flat bag into a large one.

Take two of our bags at the same 38 x 42 cm. The flat Premium Recycled Cotton Tote Bag holds 10 litres. Add a 10 cm gusset and the Premium Recycled Canvas Tote Bag holds 21. A gusset also gives the bag a flat base, so boxes, jars and lunch tubs sit upright instead of tipping into the corners.

Your print goes on the front, and on the back too if you like. The front of a large bag has plenty of room for a bold logo.

Choosing a large tote

  • For a weekly shop or a market stall, go wide and deep: the Premium Organic Canvas Contrast Panel Tote Bag, the Premium Recycled Canvas Stand Up Tote, or a juco bag with a 19 cm gusset.
  • For folders, documents and laptops, go tall: the 42 cm tall canvas totes take A4 upright with room to spare.

Questions people ask

What size is a large tote bag?

There's no standard size. Ours run from 35 to 60 cm wide with a gusset of 5 to 20 cm, and hold 18 to 33 litres. For comparison, a standard flat cotton tote is 38 x 42 cm and holds about 10 litres. Our bag sizes guide goes into more detail.

What is the biggest bag you print?

The widest tote is the Premium Organic Canvas Zip Tote Bag at 60 x 40 x 14 cm, and it holds 33 litres, the same as the taller Premium Recycled Contrast Strap Tote Bag. By volume, the XL Recycled Cotton Drawstring Stuff Bag holds a little more, at 38 litres, but it's a drawstring bag rather than a tote.

Will an A4 folder fit?

Yes. Every bag on this page is at least 33 cm tall and 35 cm wide, so A4 goes in upright.

Will a large tote carry a laptop?

Most 15-inch laptops fit the bags that are 38 cm wide or more. The 35 cm wide totes suit a 13-inch laptop better. Use the size checker above to compare.

Does a large bag cost more to deliver?

Delivery is priced by weight in the basket, so heavier bags add a little. You'll see the exact cost before you pay. We send by DPD Next Day to UK mainland addresses.
